A Few Changes

mbji

I've gotten some feedback, and will make some changes effective immediately:

First, it's a major pain to write as the "royal we" all the time, and apparently it's not all that fun to read either. There are a couple of other people who write here occasionally, but going forward they'll just post with different user ID's.

Second, I've been told that some pieces run too long. I'll make an effort to keep comments brief and to the point, though some of the topics I expect to address will probably resist my best intentions.

JP:

There's no law against rambling, only trespassing. ;-)

I was being constructive and helpful by pointing out that the "hive mind" tense gets annoying pretty quickly.

I've no problem with long articles, but with long articles that lose the point or fail to have a point, cause me to wonder who I should sue for the loss of lifespan I just wasted. Concision is good. Appositeness and concision are your greatest blogging friends.

BelowTheCrowd [TypeKey Profile Page]:

Well, I'll do my best to keep things on focus, at least to the extent that I'm writing, and I'll also try to keep my other contributors in line.

That said, I don't expect that everything I write will be of interest to everybody, and I won't apologize for the fact that some things I find interesting or amusing aren't seen by others in quite the same way.

And of course, keep comments coming either in public or by email. I've already had quite a few private ideas dealing with everything from the content to the layout and colors on the site.

JP:

By all means, keep going. The content is for the most part interesting and different from most other weblogs I've seen. At least it's not a "look at my navel lint" blog (there's too many of those)

The key part is enjoyment. Do you enjoy writing articles here? There'll always be more successful and less successful articles.

Also the other factor that will keep people coming back is productivity - if it doesn't change for two weeks - bad, if it changes every day or two or three - good. Don't be ashamed of just posting links to articles you find interesting - these are always useful.
